Eyelid Surgery

Excess skin around the eyes can cause problems with vision, a puffy appearance, a tired or fatigued look, bags around the eyes, or droopiness of the eyelids themselves. Cosmetic eyelid surgery is tailored to address these problems. Often times eyelid surgery is combined with other treatments, including laser resurfacing, or facelift surgery with dramatic results.

If you would like to appear refreshed, younger, and less fatigued, eyelid surgery may be an excellent option. Eyelid surgery, also medically known as blepharoplasty, works by surgically removing excess skin and pockets of fat from the eyelids. Please contact our office so we can help you determine which procedure is best for you.

Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty

For this procedure, the incision is made in the natural skin fold of the upper eye. This procedure removes excess skin improving that tired “saggy” look. This is often the first procedure people need as the signs of aging develop. It does not require general anesthesia.

Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty

This procedure targets bags under the eyes by removing excess skin and fat. For patients with “bagginess” alone, excess fat can be removed without a visible scar. If skin does need to be removed, the incision is hidden beneath the lash line. General anesthesia is not required, and this procedure is often performed with upper lid surgery. For fine crepe paper like lines of the lower lids, Active FX and Deep FX can be done, often at the same time.

NovaThreads

NovaThreads are small, hypodermic needles that come preloaded with polydioxanone (PDO) absorbable sutures. When fully inserted into and removed from the subdermal layer of the skin, they leave behind their sutures. The sutures stimulate a sort of controlled heating and repair process beneath the skin. This heating makes the body naturally create new collagen in an effort to repair itself, creating a younger, lifted, restored look. Over the next four to six months, the sutures naturally absorb into the body and don’t leave you with any scar tissue afterwards. All you’re left with is an improved appearance. NovaThreads can be inserted anywhere, but they are especially effective in the lower third of the face, like the neck and the jawline.

There are two types of NovaThreads: NuMesh and NuLift. NuMesh involves a sort of mesh net that gets inserted through two vertical and three horizontal sutures. It creates a new foundation for collagen growth, tightening the skin from within over time. NuLift, on the other hand, works a little more dramatically by creating grips beneath the skin that can be pulled in different directions to instantly reposition the skin. In either procedure, the goal is to stimulate new collagen growth and create a lifted, youthful appearance for the face.

Blepharoplasty

Aging is a natural process, and part of that process involves losing some elasticity to the skin, making it look loose and saggy. On the face, eyelids may stretch and the muscles that support them may weaken. This can result in sagging eyebrows, heavy and droopy eyelids, and puffy bags under the eyes. Not only can this make you look older, but these aging effects can impact peripheral vision.

Blepharoplasty, or an eyelid lift, is a surgery that corrects droopy eyelids and removes excess skin, muscle, and fat around the eyes. This surgery can reduce vision problems and make your eyes look younger, more alert, and rejuvenated.

During a blepharoplasty, the surgeon will make an incision along the fold of the upper eyelid, redistributing and removing the excess skin, muscle, and fat. The incision is then sutured shut. On the lower eyelid, the incision is made just below the lash line or inside the lower eyelid. If the upper eyelid droops closely to the pupil, your doctor may provide additional support to the eyebrow muscle using a procedure called ptosis. Your doctor can also combine laser resurfacing with this procedure to reduce lines and wrinkles.

Blepharoplasty might be a good option for you if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Puffy bags under the eyes
  • Droopy upper eyelids
  • Excess skin on the upper eyelids that may interfere with your vision
  • Excess skin on the lower eyelids

Please contact our office if you suffer from any of these symptoms to see if you are a good candidate for a blepharoplasty.
