Latera

Surgical Procedures

What is LATERA?

When a blockage of nasal passageways prevents a sufficient flow of air through the nose, a person’s quality-of-life suffers, especially during sleep or exercise. Sometimes the cause is structural. If the side wall of the nostril contains weakened or overly flexible cartilage, it can collapse, flattening inward when a person inhales through the nose. This condition is called nasal valve collapse. LATERA is an absorbable implant that helps this condition.

Injected through the inside wall of the nostril, LATERA provides ongoing support to the upper and lower cartilage in the nose, preventing nasal valve collapse and keeping the nasal passageway open. The procedure may cause mild bruising and inflammation, but these effects are temporary, and no long-term negative changes occur in the appearance of the nose.

The benefits of LATERA include reduced congestion and increased ease of breathing through the nose, especially during exercise or exertion. Many also notice fewer sleep problems as a result of the procedure.

I highly recommend Dr Fisher if you're looking for a physician. He is an excellent surgeon. My recovery for what I had done was hard and extensive. If you're in need of a septoplasty with functional rhinoplasty and have any desire to have cosmetic changes to your nose be sure to have that addressed. My breathing and quality of sleep is much improved. Overall I am very happy to breathe without difficulty.
