You’ve Heard Of Facelifts, But What About Lip Lifts?

lip lift

Lip augmentation is one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments. There has been a wave of innovative products and treatments designed to help you get that perfect pout. As part of the natural aging process, the upper lip becomes thinner and turns in, and sometimes lip augmentation is not enough to correct this. Enter the lip lift procedure.

What is a Lip Lift?

A lip lift is a permanent lip surgery designed to increase the amount of lip visible. Lip lifts correct your philtrum, which is the area between your top lip and your nose. As we age, the ligaments supporting this area loosens and weakens, making it thin out over time. During an upper lip lift procedure, your doctor makes a small incision, hidden in your nostrils, and removes excess skin and muscle. This turns the lip back out and shortens the upper lip, making lips look full and youthful. The procedure takes less than an hour and is performed with anesthesia.

But lip lifts aren’t only for patients looking to turn back signs of aging. Lip lifts in younger patients are great for those looking for permanent lip injections. With lip fillers, there is only a limited extent to which you can get improvement in terms of lip height. Lip lifts can plump up lips without creating over-exaggerated volume, which is one of the drawbacks of lip fillers.

Surgical and Nonsurgical Options of Lip Augmentation

Lip lifts can be used in combination with lip augmentation procedures, and there are plenty of options available to plump your pout. There are a number of factors to talk over with your doctor to see which option is right for you. Here are a few options:

Lip Fillers: Lip fillers, such as Juvederm, Restylane, and Voluma, are a series of lip injections that shape up and plump up your lips. These are injected into the upper and lower lips right in the office. So, Lip filler augmentation is a relatively quick procedure that can be done over a lunch break. These last six to eight months.

Lip implants: Lip implants are a more permanent alternative to temporary lip filters. Permalip implant insertion is done in the office. Small incisions are made in each corner of the mouth, and a tunnel is created in the lip. The implant is positioned inside this tunnel between the lip fat and above the lip muscles. This procedure takes about a half-hour, and these are permanent lip fillers.

Fat grafting: Fat transfer is a process that removes fat from one part of your body and injects it into another part, such as the lips. During the fat graft, fat is harvested from the stomach, inner thighs, or inner knees via syringe or liposuction, purified, and transferred into the lips. This procedure takes an hour or two to perform and lasts five or more years.

Benefits after Face Lift Procedure

Whether you opt for a lip lift, temporary lip injections, permanent lip implants, or a combination. You will notice a significantly plumper pout right away. Like any procedure, there is always a chance of bleeding, infection, and scarring, but with careful care, these are unlikely.

Make sure to consult your doctor to communicate exactly what you are looking for in terms of size, volume, shape, and subtlety. Once you and your doctor on the same page, your doctor can help you select the right brand, product, and procedure that fits your goals for your unique and plumper pout.
