How to Get Natural-Looking Lip Filler

natural looking lip filler

Looking to get plump lips that look natural and not overdone? Or looking to keep your lips looking plump between filler appointments? While there’s no such thing as a truly “natural lip filler” per se, there are ways to apply lip filler so that it looks natural. We’ll go through how to get natural-looking lip filler as well as a few different options you have for plumping your lips at home between applications.

Can lip filler look natural?

Definitely! Today’s fillers have improved upon their predecessors, and using special formulations, they are able to look natural when your lips move. The trick is in the application. In the right hands, lip filler can be applied so that it appears natural and doesn’t look like you’ve had any work done. And if you really want your fillers to look close to your natural lips, just a touch can be applied for a subtle effect.

How to make natural-looking fillers last longer

Since we’re talking about ways to maintain filler results between appointments, here are some tips specifically geared towards that. As you likely know, lip fillers are not a permanent procedure and need to be redone every few months. Lip fillers generally last around nine to 12 months, although some can last longer while others might need to be redone sooner. It all depends on the type of filler used and individual factors.

The first tip to make your lip fillers last longer is to watch your sun exposure and protect your lips in the sun. Use lip products that contain SPF. You’ll find that some lip balms, lipsticks, and other lip products have SPF in them. As long as you’re using one product with sun protection in it, you should be good. For example, if your lip balm has an SPF of 30 and you layer a lip gloss on top that has no SPF, you’re still covered by the benefits of the lip balm.

Hydration is also extremely helpful. Dry lips will look thinner than they actually are, so you’re not doing your lips any favors if they’re dry. Hydrate your lips often with lip balm throughout the day. At night, use a lip mask for intense overnight moisturization. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid for top-tier hydration results.

Cortisol, the stress hormone, can ramp up your body’s metabolization of your filler. So try as much as you can to limit stress and practice habits that help you de-stress (yoga, meditation, light exercise). Eating healthy can also help. When your body is at optimal health, inflammation is at a minimum, and you’ll have one less factor working against you when it comes to getting your fillers to last a bit longer.

Lastly, always be sure to follow your doctor’s instructions for aftercare. This will have a big effect on your fillers looking their best and lasting as long as possible.
