How Upper Eyelid Surgery Can Improve Your Appearance (and Self-Esteem!)

double eyelid

An eyelid lift, also called a blepharoplasty, is a surgery that removes skin and fat from the eyelids. Although referred to as an eyelid lift, the eyelids are not really lifted during surgery. If you have realistic expectations and are in relatively good health, you are likely a good candidate for eyelid surgery.

On the upper eyelids, excess fat and skin can create heavy or hooded looking eyes. This can give off an aged appearance, puffiness, and in severe cases, can even block part of the field of vision. Surgery on the upper eyelid can remove this excess skin and fat to improve your appearance and your field of vision. Lower eyelid surgery is performed to remove excess skin and fat to improve the overall contour of the eyelid. Double eyelid surgery can be performed to enhance an upper eyelid crease.

Upper eyelid surgery uses small incisions in the eyelid crease that allow the removal of skin and fat. The incisions for lower eyelid surgery are hidden directly below the lash line or on the inside of the eyelid. This procedure can be combined with laser resurfacing to reduce fine lines and wrinkles in this area.

Upper blepharoplasty can also be combined with a temporal brow lift to create the “fox eye” look.
