Excess skin around the eyes can cause problems including impairment of vision, puffy appearance to the upper eyelids, appearance of being tired or fatigued, bags around the eyes, or droopiness of the eyelids themselves.
As we age, our skin gradually loses elasticity. This decline in elasticity, in addition to the constant pull of gravity over time causes skin to accumulate in the eyelids. Excess skin on the lower eyelid creates wrinkles and signs of aging. On the upper eyelids, an extra fold of skin can form, which can actually hang over the eyelashes and obstruct vision.
Another cause of the bulges is from the fat that cushions the eyes. The membrane that holds the fat in places actually weakens with age, causing this fat to protrude into the lids.
