Raise Your Brow: How a Brow Lift and Botox® Cosmetic Create a Youthful Forehead

eyebrow lift

Want to rejuvenate your forehead? The forehead is prone to several different signs of aging, such as lines on the forehead, sagging brows, and even lines between the eyebrows. Two of the best options for the forehead are Botox and a brow lift. Let’s explore the unique benefits of each.

Botox for the forehead

Botox works by blocking the nerve signals that make muscles in a certain area (in this case, the forehead) contract. When muscles contract, they can cause wrinkling of an area. For example, expressions such as raising your eyebrows cause horizontal lines to show up on the forehead. Botox makes it so that, upon movement such as raising the eyebrows, the muscles in the forehead will not contract; therefore, those lines won’t show up.

Botox is an excellent preventative measure. Wrinkles come in two types: dynamic and static. Dynamic wrinkles only show up with movement of the face, but eventually they turn into static wrinkles that are present even when your face is at rest. These dynamic wrinkles are caused by repeated bending of the skin through the years coupled with the fact that skin loses its ability to bounce back with age. Botox can help prevent dynamic wrinkles from becoming static wrinkles.

Botox is minimally invasive and requires no downtime. Results are immediately visible.

Brow lift

A brow lift is an excellent option for moderate to severe signs of aging such as deep wrinkles and lines. A brow lift works on the upper third of the face, lifting the forehead and brow area to remedy sagging and lines. Unlike Botox, it is a long-term solution. On average, you can go about 10 years before further aging may make another brow lift desirable.

A brow lift is a surgical procedure, and it does often require general anesthesia. There are also a few weeks of downtime associated with this procedure. Results from a brow lift are visible right away but are temporarily masked by common post-procedure effects such as redness and swelling as the area heals.
